All brides read bridal magazines and enamor at all the beautiful images of anything bridal! They come to their photographers with clippings and aspirations of grandeur. Unfortunately no one has told the girls that these images took 8 hours to shoot with a cast and crew of many. Who am I to shatter their dreams? Photographers are artists and magicians! In a split second we have to make decisions that we see as long as we open files, proof books, and albums. This post is a story of the anatomy of a portrait.
Lisa and John got married several years ago at a church in West Grove. The church was relatively new and had replaced on old historic church on the main road of town. The property around the church was pretty post construction barren and not much to behold other than a parking lot. I went downstairs in the church before the ceremony to wash my hands and came upon a concrete wall, overhead ducts, and this wonderful window light screaming through the basement window. Excitingly I ran back upstairs to the groom and asked if we could bring the groomsmen downstairs for one final shoot. Of course, a church, tuxes, and groomsmen makes for a band of nervous, vociferous beings. I had to listen to callous, uncouth comments down the elevator which was easy to ignore as I pursued my vision. Simple instructions and 2 photographs later, the magician transformed a cruddy, nondescript basement wall into a masterpiece that will forever live in my mind, my website, and my office wall! Lisa and John were thrilled with our artistry!
