Disturbance 58

What a difference six days make!  Tom and I photographed Jenn’s Wedding on Saturday as seen in my previous post.   The following Thursday Linda and I headed to Dewey and Ocean City to photograph Tara and Jamie’s Wedding and to photograph a “life session” with the Davis Family.  We arrived in the middle of Disturbance 58!  Linda’s husband emailed me details of this weather anomaly, so we were prepared for a hurricane.  The beach in Dewey didn’t exist, the fences protecting the dunes were swept out to sea, and the wind and rain pelted us as we photographed the following photos with my Canon G9.  The sheer power of the wind and surf was breathtaking.  These photos don’t show the turbulence and the sounds.

Thankfully all events went off without any hitches as the storm continued northeast.  It was a busy weekend!

Second Fiddle

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity of second shooting this month with Tom Lunt.  Tom has become a good friend and confidant. His work can be viewed here:  http://www.luntphotography.com/   Photography is a constant learning process and availing yourself to different perspectives enhances your artistry.  Keep up the good work Tom and stop selling the farm! :)

Second shooting allows me to experiment without the pressure of the wedding logistics.  It presents a different view than I am used to because of this.  It also puts me in Linda’s shoes and will ultimately improve our coverage of weddings.  On top of everything else, second shooting is a blast and our clients enjoy the camaraderie!

Michigander

For those of you that don’t know me, I was born in the great state of Michigan in the Upper Peninsula.  It has always been home to me and I thoroughly enjoy my yearly treks for “mental health”.  It’s were I got my love for the outdoors and nature.  I overheard my daughter telling her friend ” we went fishing and to the cemeteries”.  Many relatives that have had a positive influence on my life are no longer with us and I feel the need to share their stories with my daughter.  She only remembers some of them by the photos I have taken over the years.  We did get to spend some time with my cousins this year, although we never had enough to play euchre.  What do you do for “mental health”?

We also met a wonderful family next that rented the cottage next door.  I bartered boat help for family photos.  They had a great turnout and the sky was perfect! We are coordinating our trip next year with them.

One Year and Counting…

Since joining up with Jeff and his Twisted Visions Tour a little more than a year ago, what a FUN year it has been! We have been friends a long time, and always talked about working together, and finally we did. We have had a great year meeting and photographing great clients, old and new.

I was so excited for Jeff when he was voted Best of The Knot 2008 recently. Good stuff!
He has been a great friend and mentor to me, he somehow “converted” me from Nikon and now I get to use all the latest and greatest in Cannon gear, (sometimes he has to pry them out of my hands….) I have used lens that I would never have thought I would like and I LOVE them! Also learning new software, like Adobe’s LightRoom, (I’m slowly catching up with him…) and attending workshops, and getting the new blog up and running, well, the list goes on.
We enjoy pushing each others creative perspectives to come up with some really cool stuff!
So I am a couple of months into year 2 and counting. I look forward to the twisted tours and all that they bring….

Thanks Jeff!
